Migrating is an intense experience, full of challenges and surprises. New worlds and significant losses. One of the biggest is the one of the native speaker status.
For me, the written word was always the main way of expression and tool work. When I arrived in Australia in the beginning of 2023, the feeling of having lost the possibility to intervene with my writing meant such a big loss, that little by little I started to write in English.
In August that year I created the web and uploaded the first four or five articles. There was a writing process going on, that only needed a space, and that is why it keeps alive: flexible and of changing constancy, as my reality is.
I give thanks to my friend Romi, writer and editor, who brought me readings through which I connected with the seed of this project. My creativity was completely burnt, after two years of working in commercial communication eight hours per day and more.
The fact that it is not in my language allows me to write things that I wouldn´t permit myself to in Spanish, lowering self-imposed demands and leaving aside my own and other´s ideas about what must be written.
I no longer live in a native Anglo-Saxon context, but the language has that “universal” thing that makes me keep on choosing it for writing. A small bridge between non-hegemonic perspectives and other audiences.
